While the circumstances in each of these stories come from experience, please note that names and locations may be changed to protect survivors’ identities. These stories are offered to provide a window into the many ways that poor communication, case mismanagement, and even seemingly insignificant errors can result in added trauma, undue burden, emotional turmoil, and physical threats to safety.
The survivors who’ve shared their experiences here have done so in an effort to help us uncover and advocate to mend gaps in our current legal and judicial systems, so that future victims of intimate partner violence may one day receive the justice, peace, and healing that we all deserve—minus the missteps.
